ABOUT Ti-6Q2

WARD INDUSTRIES is pleased to offer an American Made higher strength domestically produced reasonably priced alternative to the traditional titanium alloy 6Al-4V.

We have made a large purchase of Titanium Bar Stock & Plate from an aerospace vendor in the F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet Program.

The grade of Titanium we are selling is technically called AMS 4898 or TI-6Al-2Sn-2Mo-2Cr.15 Si or Ti-62222s Produced by RTI Metals of Niles, Ohio it is marketed under the trade name Ti-6Q2 (Name meaning 6 Quadruple Two's).

Ti-6Q2 is used in the tail section of the USAF's F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet Program. It replaced 6Al-4V Titanium in critical areas Because Ti-6Q2 has higher strength, toughness, fracture toughness, abrasion resistance and has a greater versatility of heat treatments available it is a Titanium Alloy that is a generation beyond 6Al-4V.

The Air Force wanted to completely replace Titanium 6Al-4V throughout the F-22 Aircraft but because RTI still has the patent on Ti-6Q2 there was fear that too much reliance would be given to one supplier. Also there were worries that RTI would not have the capacity to produce all of the Ti-6Q2 needed to supply the F-22 Program.

As is well known the F-22 program is lately much in the news. The Defense Department has slashed the F-22 Budget & a flood of excess Ti-6Q2 has come on the market. As this material has come available we have purchased it.

The Defense Department spent up to $75.00per lb to purchase this Titanium For there F-22 program.We are now offering this material as low as $13-$19 per lb depending on size & quantity needed.

This titanium was never produced by RTI with the commercial market in mind so it is virtually unknown outside of defense contractor circles.In purchasing this alloy our intention is the market this wonderful alloy in the same way so many high quality products made the jump from the space program.

Ti-6Q2 can be forged in the same manner as Ti-6Al-4V it is super plastic at 1675 degrees. It has flow stress,crack sensitivity parameter's superior to that of Ti-6Al-4V.

Because of Cr-Mo content Ti-6Q2 has a superior machined finish it has been compared to a 300 series Stainless Steel finish. Also because of the Cr-Mo that Ti-6Q2 is alloyed with bearing & seal areas are easily & inexpensively Hard Chrome Plated providing wear resistance an option not conventionally available on 6Al-4V.

Ti-6Q2 has the same weight characteristics & corrosion resistance that Ti-6Al-4V has.

This is a little known Alloy strong enough for tail section of New F-22 Fighter Jet. Grade Offered is Ti-622-22 (Ti-6Al-2Sn-2Mo-2Zr.15Si) Alpha-Beta Alloy. It is Heat Treatable & Machines Easily. Known as Quad 2, this alloy has never been offered commercially. It survives where Ti6al4v fails. This is little known alloy because it was just recently developed. Made only by RTI (Niles,Ohio). We have all mill certifications offered as inexpensive replacement for Ti-64,CP,Ti-6242 or Ni-Alloys. Virtually Corrosion Proof, Highly Creep Resistant at High Temperatures. Government has declared that this material exceeds Ti-6246 in all applications (have study).
